A Sunday Jaunt at Island East Markets

This weekend, my dear friend Soojeong and I decided to explore Island East Markets. Founded by food blogger Janice Leung and Hong Kong Markets Organisation manager Vince Poon, this Sunday market brings together local organic farmers, designers, craftsmen and bands. It runs from 11am - 6pm, and is easily found across Quarry Bay MTR Exit A, on Tong Chong Street. (Read more about the market's purpose here.)

Weekend means time for a flowy skirt! Made using one of my favourite apps, Rhonna Designs.

The stalls were buzzing with activity. There was a small stage and artificial mini-lawn in the centre. The atmosphere reminded me of Stanley Market, albeit on a smaller scale. Yay to clear Hong Kong skies!

We sampled some craft beers from Beerhound, a supplier of rare beers. I tried the Thatcher's rosé cider (in the pinkish bottles bottom right of the picture), which is apparently made of red apples instead of green. It had a light taste, but I think I prefer the usual Somerset cider.

There were also jewelry stalls. However, the items were pricey for us poor students hence Soo's expression. I found a pair of John Lennon sunglasses which cost HKD 580... who carries that much cash on hand? That and the fact that HKD 580 is just plain extravagant for your "kiam siap" (Hokkien for frugal) blogger, vintage or not.

Having exhausted the market, Soo and I came across this little cafe called Pregio by Barista Caffe

Nostalgia: I miss the coffee pot we had in our old apartment, which looks just like the vintage metal one on the top left shelf, closest to the pictures.

We shared a strawberry waffle, which was quite delightful. The cream wasn't too sweet and didn't taste artificial. The latte I had was decent. Overall, Pregio is a pretty cosy cafe to spend chill weekends at.

Next door was a pretty interesting-looking noodle joint called Mian. Apparently the place is famous for its Chinese-style pappardelle noodles. Maybe I'll return to sample it. Oh dear. Just typing "pappardelle" has brought into my mind pappardelle with mixed mushrooms... Nooooo, midnight hunger!
